an augmented cajon.

This is a preview of a prototype in development. Visually it's still a raw beauty, but its sound and interactive response already reveal the potential of this new type of electro-acoustic instrument. The CaBoom is an augmented cajón that expands your acoustic playing and musical expression in an unprecedented way.

real vibrations, virtual sounds.

From the outside, it looks like a regular cajon. But the striking surface is augmented, transforming it into a vibrotactile hybrid instrument. Every strike, every rub—generates an electronic sound that makes the surface vibrate. You feel these vibrations directly, as if playing the membrane of another drum—a virtual drum that can be felt. The result is a unique playing experience that feels like a natural extension of your musical expression. With the CaBoom, e-drumming and acoustic percussion merge in one-box.

make music.

With the CaBoom, you’ll have all the sounds you need in one box. Multiple playing zones on the surface allow for different sounds in the same space.
The instrument is planned as a performance instrument. In street performances it can serve as a speaker, allowing you to connect with fellow musicians — music becomes tangible, and you can play your beats directly on it.
It will also provide the interfaces needed for sophisticated electronic setups, including CV, Gate, and MIDI letting you explore your studio in a whole new way.

mind the bass.

The whole setup is backed by a powerful subwoofer that extends the sound below 30 Hz. The CaBoom’s deep lows and punchy bass give you a wide sonic palette to play with — suitable for any setting. Whether jamming with friends in the park, performing at a concert, or experimenting with a jazz combo, the CaBoom delivers a unique playing experience, responsiveness, and rich sound — including a powerful, vibrating kick bass.

about me.

Hi, I'm Georg Hoppe. Coder, musician and the creative mind of the CaBoom. After studying physics, I completed a PhD in engineering, specializing in system development and laser material processing for solar applications. Professionally and personally, I’ve since immersed myself in embedded systems and signal processing.
In the development of musical instruments and in sound synthesis, art and technology meet—which has inspired me a lot. I’m fascinated by the idea of combining electronic sound worlds in a haptic and accessible way, making them available to all kind musicians.

support.

I’m looking for support in all areas to bring the CaBoom to life: financial backing, technical expertise, marketing and community growth, production partnerships, beta testing, and business development. If you are interested, do not hesitate to contact me.
